11/06/2026 Market Update: Anatomy of a 4% Selloff y — What Caused It, What I Missed, and Why It Isn't 2022

Market Update Preview

A lot to dissect after yesterday: the S&P down more than 4%, the Nasdaq down around 6%, tech taking a beating, and selling across the board — one of the bigger single-day sell-offs we've seen in a long time. So this update does three things. It sets the stage for what actually drove the sell-off (I count three distinct forces that stacked into a perfect storm, and only one of them is the headline everyone's talking about). It does an honest postmortem on what I should have weighted more heavily heading in — there's one variable I'm promoting in my own thought process going forward. And it lays out where I think we go from here.

I'll put my cards on the table: I think we recover. Nothing in our tools points to a major macro slowdown. The conditions that make a cycle brittle simply aren't in place yet, and I don't think we look back in two or three months and call this the start of a 2022. I walk through the balance-sheet mechanics behind the forced selling, a timing insight from the Discord about why this landed when it did, how the election outcome feeds the longer-term fiscal picture into 2027, and the specific signals I'm waiting on before getting aggressive again — because after a volatility pop like this, there's a right way and a wrong way to re-enter. Full breakdown below.
